Community members who are flood and fire survivors, doctors, parents and voters from marginal electorates are part of a delegation headed to Parliament today to remind MPs what the Safeguard Mechanism is all about: Tackling climate change and protecting communities from worsening impacts.
48 climate organisations call on fossil fuel polluters to pull their weight
A coalition of 48 climate organisations is today calling on Australia’s biggest fossil fuel polluters to step up and commit to reducing pollution. The Albanese Government is proposing to reform the so called ‘Safeguard Mechanism’ which is supposed to ensure that the heaviest climate polluters in Australia progressively reduce their emissions.
Reducing the climate emissions of major industrial polluters
The Safeguard Mechanism should require Australia’s big polluters to do their fair share of emissions reduction. If they don’t, other sectors like manufacturing, agriculture and households will have to do proportionally more to bring our net emissions down to 43% by 2030.
